It’s hard to believe it is already the end of four weeks without Social Media. Thanksgiving was the hardest. Reflecting upon it, I believe it stems from the fact that I had more free time. I also had an urge to share good deals I found that others might be interested in. I got over it and found something productive to do with my time.

I have done more long form reading also known as books mostly some science fiction. Speaking of reading Amazon had a gift code of GIFTBOOK17 for $5 off a $20 or more book. I realize I haven’t tried out the website blocking apps. I thought that it might be taking on too much at once and I wanted to observe more the changes I have been undergoing in doing without Social Media. I realize I am not alone in feeling distracted. According to a recent study of Android Users  the average user was spending 145 minutes or nearly two and a half hours on their phone. The heaviest users were spending three and a quarter hours on their phone. That wouldn’t be so bad if everyone was reading a book but the reality is those average users were doing it over 76 different sessions a day! I recommend reading the whole article.

Aside for texts and phone calls. It has been to check the weather for an upcoming campout, read a online book, check the news, and largely to fill in time that used to be used to reflect and solve problems. It was the downtime that allowed me to recharge mentally, to tackle big problems, and come up with solutions.

I’ve got two more days of the fast to go. After that I will probably practice intermittent fasting regarding social media. It has given me an extra incentive to review the habits that make up my life and reform a few.
